That was my kind of prayer before I go and while commuting to work
each morning. At that time, being a newbie in the
corporate world and getting along with my boss was difficult for me. Mr. Yell (not his real name) was a hard to please and short-tempered superior. He would shout at anyone even at the
slightest mistake. And each day, he’s becoming a ‘monster’ to me.
After several months, I found myself praying
a new petition. I remembered asking the Lord to make a choice: “O God,. It's either me or Mr. Yell. One has to go. I don’t want to work with him anymore”. Perhaps it took me more than a month uttering the same
prayer each day. Until I’ve realized my foolishness. I wanted the Lord to
take Mr. Yell out of the company in exchange of me. A nobody versus the Vice President of the company and definitely
one of the best in the industry. What a foolish
prayer!
I told myself “you’re not only pathetic but stupid.”
And guess what I did? I filed my resignation letter that week. At first Mr. Yell
wouldn’t want me to go however I insisted. “Nobody can stop me now.” I told
myself.
During that time, I needed to finish some work
assignments, so I had to stay with the
company for several weeks. Until one
fateful day. Mr. Yell suddenly tendered his
IRREVOCABLE RESIGNATION! We (his staff) were
caught by surprise. According to the source, there had been a scandal. And in order
to save his reputation, the VP decided to leave the company as soon as
possible.
Immediately, our secretary came to see me. She asked “Do you want me to go to the Head Office? I’ll
get your resignation back and I’ll tear
them right in front of you.” I was
dumbfounded. I don’t know what to say or do. Then I told
her “I’ve already made up my mind. I
guess I have to go too.” Then I
remembered my prayer. And I felt sorry
for myself. I never
thought that the Lord would take a foolish prayer . . . seriously.
