On the ninth day of Christmas my True Love sent to me, Nine Ladies Dancing...
During my SFC days, I used to discuss the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit. These are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. (Galatians 5:22-23). These are represented by those women who were joyfully and patiently waiting for the Lord, the nine ladies dancing.
On the tenth day of Christmas, my True Love sent to me, Ten Lords a-Leaping.
The men on the other hand, were not just dancing but leaping (dancing exuberantly). They are the Ten Lords, the so-called Morris dancers representing the 'Ten Commandments.'
On the eleventh day of Christmas my True Love sent to me, Eleven Piper’s Piping…
The eleven musicians played the bagpipes, the woodwind instruments.
It was written that Judas betrayed Jesus. He felt sorry for his action but he chose to end his life leaving the other eleven disciples. They represent the eleven pipers piping.
On the twelfth day of Christmas my True Love sent to me, Twelve Drummers Drumming!
Here goes the musicians again. This time, the drummers symbolize the twelve articles found in the Apostles Creed.
There you have it… the essence of Twelve Days of Christmas. Indeed a joyous and meaningful Christmas carol. Let me end this series with one great quote by W.C. Jones:
